Below you will see the courses I took for the MAED program. I have included a course description along with a sample of work I completed for each course. FALL 2006 - SPRING 2007
Instructors: K. Moon, T. Bird, R. Wohl, S. Hollifield Description of Internship: My yearlong internship was in a fifth grade classroom in Novi, Michigan. I collaborated with a team of teachers, instructing a group of students of diverse backgrounds. The internship program entailed not only a full time classroom placement, but also the completion of twelve graduate credits in Elementary Education. It was beneficial not only to experience the school year from start to finish, but also to be responsible for lead teaching for ten weeks. My internship year provided me with many experiences with students and staff as well as resources to help me reach my potential as a teacher. Examples of Work: Math Unit, Science Unit, Literacy Unit, Social Studies Unit SUMMER 2009
Instructor: T. Mariage Description: This course provided many applicable classroom management strategies as well as behavior intervention ideas. It helped me as a teacher to be proactive with my classroom management and recognize the motivation behind different behaviors. This class was one of the most worthwhile courses I took at Michigan State as the content was all useful when implemented in my classroom. Example of Work: Conscious Discipline

We learned effective teaching methods and were introduced to various assessments and materials to assist in meeting students' literacy learning needs. We studied and compared the various awards for children's books to gain an understanding of the common traits of these books and the criteria for selecting the awarded books. Instructor: C. Okolo Description: We learned instructional practices to be used in the general education classroom to help students with learning problems and disabilities. This course taught us how to differentiate lessons to accommodate all learners and allow students to interact with material in multiple ways, based on their individual learning styles. We were introduced to Universal Design for Learning, in which lesson materials, activities, and assessments vary so that students are able to capitalize on their individual strengths to acquire new knowledge. Examples of Work: Unit Plan for a Diverse Classroom SPRING 2011
Instructor: J. Aupperlee Description: This course focused on using a positive classroom management approach. We examined several types of behavior problems, including aggressiveness, oppositionality, hyperactivity, and social withdrawl, and learned methods to effectively deal with these behaviors. We applied strategies learned in our own classrooms as well as in many case studies. Example of Work: Case Study SUMMER 2011
Instructor: M. Koehler Description: This final course allowed us to reflect on our learning throughout our time in the MAED program. We looked back at our prior goals, set new goals for the future, and created a professional web portfolio to showcase our learning and use with future employers and with student families.
